LONDON UNLEASHED
If you’re looking for the perfect place to take your pampered pet dog for a luxury city break, London has it all.
It is, after all, one of the greenest cities in the world, certainly the greenest in Europe. The city may yet become Britain’s newest National Park. The benefits to tourism are clear as the parks and green spaces have wonderful highlights for nature lovers, like the 2000-year-old tree in High Barnet.
I have just signed up to receive the map they are bringing out of London’s green space, so I am ready to treat my dogs, Pebble and Brown (does that sound like a designer label?), to a fabulous jet set dog city break. http://www.nationalparkcity.london
The dog-friendly St Pancras Renaissance Hotel has pet-friendly designer suites with a cosy bed, blanket and bowl, supplied by the cool Style Tails. So we’re guaranteed boutique luxury for the night.
First, perhaps we should head to Mungo and Maud on Elizabeth Street, for the latest accessories for Pebble and on to Selfridges for a state of the art collar by Hiro and Wolf for Brown. Then we will be ready for The St. Pancras Renaissance special offer of a day’s training with City Dog. My dilemma is the choice between a session on how to behave on the tube, or dog skateboarding tuition. The skateboard park House of Vans is an exciting underground skateboard haven where, if nothing else, we can pose for skateboarding selfies.
Then a hop on a London bus to SW3. It’s a free ride for dogs, but that is all at the driver’s discretion, so no growling, please.
Light post exercise refreshments are in abundance at the Doggy Gelateria that sells three delicious flavours of special dog ice cream; strawberry and apple; apple, banana, and carrot; and honey and banana. The shop only opened at the end of July at Pet Pavilion in fashionable King’s Road (one of three branches) and has been a great success in the hot weather.
To relax tired muscles, we should stroll to the Pet Spa further up the road. Lavish bubble bath, oatmeal conditioning rinse treatment and warm towel wrap. We will try the relaxing pet pedicure including paw soak, nail trim, shea butter massage and aloe and comfrey paw conditioner. Very tempted to add, a gentle ear cleanser and a minty fresh-breath treatment. Can’t wait to show you the before and after pics!
Finally, I plan some to wind down myself round the corner in South Kensington, with a glass or two of champagne and some oysters at the iconic Bibendum, offering a visual and gastronomic feast, where dogs are warmly welcomed.
